Memories of Bury Hill

The fishery’s own pages give the figures. Anglers who fished there know the rest: which pegs fished well, what the boats were like at dawn, who ran the shop. This page explains how to send your memory by email.

How to send

Four steps, all by email

  1. Step 01

    Write it down

A few lines is plenty. Say which lake, roughly which year, and what happened: a match result, a first carp, a cold morning in the boats.

  2. Step 02

    Say how to credit you

Your full name, your first name and the town you live in, or “anonymous”. Your email address is never published.

  3. Step 03

    Agree to publication

The email template asks whether your text may be published under CC BY 4.0, which lets others quote it with credit. Without a yes, nothing is published.

  4. Step 04

    Attach photos you took

Only send photos you took yourself, or ones the photographer has agreed to share. Say what each one shows and roughly when it was taken.

The buttons open a ready-made email in your mail app. You can also write to [email protected].

After you send it

What happens to your memory

The editor reads every email. A memory is published on its own page, credited the way you asked, with the date it was received. Spelling may be tidied, but your words are not rewritten.

Memories are marked as personal accounts. Where one gives a figure, such as a weight or a date, it is shown alongside the fishery’s own records rather than in place of them. If the two disagree, both are shown.

You can ask for your memory to be changed or taken down at any time by replying to the same address.

No memories have been published yet. The first ones sent in will open this section of the archive.

Most wanted

Gaps the archive cannot fill alone

  • A copy of the fishery rules or a day ticket, which the Internet Archive did not capture.
  • How the predator season was fished: rigs, baits and the swims that produced.
  • Genuine emails from the BHF Carp mailing list.
  • Photos or notices from the closure years, 2022 to 2025.

The Closure Record lists the open questions about the closure.
