The species

The fishery’s 2002 page for the Old Lake listed “an abundance of roach, rudd, perch, crucian carp, chub, pike and zander”, with roach and rudd to 3 lb and perch to 4 lb [Archive, 29 January 2002]. Its overview page put roach, rudd and perch at “3lb-plus” [Archive, 24 March 2002].

Milton had “large shoals of Roach and Golden Rudd, which run to 2lb-plus” [Archive, 24 March 2002].

Bags and match records

Bags over 200 lb were “not uncommon” on the Old Lake in spring and summer. In early 2002 the three-hour match record stood at 78 lb and the six-hour record at 137 lb [Archive, 29 January 2002].

On Milton, match nets over 70 lb were “a normal occurrence”, and in winter, when bloodworm was often permitted, silver-fish bags to 40 lb were recorded [Archive, 31 January 2002]. How these bags were built is in waggler and feeder.
